Maggie's Christmas Carol Service and Bart's Centre Opening

With the festive season in full swing and Christmas less than a week away, I thought I would share a quick blog from a fantastic event I photographed earlier in the month. Maggie's is a charity that has been running for just over 20 years and I've had the pleasure of working with them on events since 2015. The charity's goal is to provide "free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, their families and friends" - the vision of founder, Maggie Keswick Jencks.

There are twenty Maggie's Centres dotted around the UK with more planned. The centres are magnificent feats of architecture, designed to inspire, enable and breathe fresh air into the often sterile, clinical world of oncological treatment. If you look at the second half of this blog, you'll see what I mean!

Maggie's holds fundraising events throughout the year and, last week, I was invited to photograph their annual carol service and dinner at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Mince pies, mulled cider, a silent auction and various recognisable faces getting involved; it was an evening of fun and good will working in harmony.

On 11th December, Maggie's opened its newest centre in St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London. Partners, press and the general public were invited to explore the twists and turns of the impressive building whose character seemed to evolve as natural light burst through different windows over the course of the day.

I have a couple more blogs up my sleeve for over the festive period so keep you eyes peeled. In the meantime, please check me out on Facebook and Instagram for more frequent updates.
